I run a student selected component (SSC) of the undergraduate course: The S100- Cranial and Spinal Neurosurgery, The S100 SSC is suitable for 3rd, 4th and 5th years and runs for 4 weeks. To access the study guide please click here.
I supervise 4th year assigments and several of these assignments led to presentations at National and International Scientific meetings and publications e.g:
Neuronavigation in Neurosurgery. Astrocytomas of the brain.
Non-neurosurgical complications in head injuries. Neuro-modulation in Parkinson’s.
Spinal Cord Stimulation in chronic pain. Coiling or clipping of intracranial aneurysms.
C1/2 growth in children using CT reconstruction.
Other teaching commitments: MBBS course University of Dundee:
Phase II Nervous System for 4 weeks per year from 1996 to date with groups of 10-20 at a time bedside teaching- average 32 hrs in 4 weeks.
Fourth Year teaching every week from 1995 to date with 1 -3 students at a time with an average of 24 hrs per week.
PRHO – FY1 shadowing up to four times/ year from 2000 to date with an average 1-3 at a time and an average of 24hrs per week.
I participate in the Peer Support scheme and Student Support scheme – the University of Dundee 2004-2007 and take 3 tutees every year.
Medical Admissions Committee:
I am a member of the Medical Admissions Committee of the faculty of Medicine from 1998. I am involved in Committee meetings (6-10 per year), review and score applications in my own time (150 to 200 per year) and interviewing selected students (6-8 sessions per year).
